This article will tell you about all possible changes you can make to your theme and how we can help you with it.

This option is available for customers with Guide Professional or Guide Legacy plan. Themes customization is also available as an Add-on for Zendesk Support Team, Professional, Enterprise and Elite plans.

Changes via the Customize design panel without a single line of code!

The Appearance section of the Customize design panel lets you brand your Zendesk Help Center on your own and change the following elements without coding:

• Name of your Help Center;
• Logo;
• Favicon;
• Main colors;
• Fonts;
• Icons;
• Main hero image (in case the theme contains it);
• Home page layout;
• Colors for formatting components;
• Social media links.

Changes via the code

If you are familiar with HTML and CSS, then it's rather simple to make any other changes you like to the theme. For example:

• Colors;
• Fonts;
• Icons (we usually use Streamline Icons, but it is possible to use any others as well);
• Links;
• Logo return URL;
• Header;
• Footer;
• Layout changes. For example, number of columns;
• Anything else...

Changes via us

If you prefer to not spend time on the job, we can do all the changes for you. We have the Branding and Customization services.

Our Branding service is for basic changes. We can change colors, fonts, background images and icons. If you have your brand's style guide we can use it, or we can take the colors from your main website. Usually, branding takes 3-5 working days.

If you need more complex changes, you can purchase our Customization service. The cost of this service depends on the level of difficulty and is calculated separately in each case. Just share your customization requirements with us, and we will calculate the cost.

We will create a demo Help Center where you will be able to check out all the changes we've made. Afterward, we will install the modified theme on your Help Center where you can test everything again but with your real content in the preview mode. Only after that and when you are ready you can publish theme.

Main layout options

Usually, а Home page template of a theme consists of three main blocks.

1. Customized icons and links

   The Customized blocks are just links to any pages you want. It could be a page on your main website or a Category/Section/Article at your Help Center. They are just placeholders and are completely optional. You can have as many custom blocks as you need. Once there are more than the default number of icons, a new line is created. Usually, we use Streamline Icons, but it is possible to use any other icons too.

   

2. List of categories

   Each category is presented as a tile. By clicking on a tile, you open a category page.

   

3. Categories tree

   This is a list of categories in a Help Center. Each category contains a list of sections. Each section contains a list of six articles with a link to more articles, if there are any.

   

Mix them!

You can easily choose which option is the best for your Help Center. Moreover, you can mix them. For instance, custom icons and the category tree can be mixed. Here are some examples (click on the image to view details):

Additional layout options

You can also quickly turn “Promoted articles” and “Browse Community” blocks on or off and move them on your Home page.

Coastal Business

The special style for the category blocks of the Conway theme made the Help Center more eye-catching, user-friendly and modern.

App Builder

We made the significant layout changes for the Branch theme and created the guide script which retrieves all sections and articles using the Zendesk API. It allows easy navigation through the Help Center content.

OneTwoTrip

Significant changes of our theme and sidebar navigation were made for OneTwoTrip Help Center for a completely new look.

Pura Vida Bracelets

All the elements of our Flatrock theme including the header and footer were fully branded to achieve the feeling that the Help Center is a part of the primary website.

For our clients’ convenience, there is a free Installation service.

You can also install your Zendesk help center custom theme by yourself if you like. It is rather simple, use the following instructions.

Step 1. Click the "Customize design" icon in the sidebar.

Step 2. Unarchive the downloaded zip file.

Step 3. Click the “Import” button on the right.

Step 4. Upload theme .zip archive package. 

Step 5. Click the “View theme” button on the theme you would like to preview.

Step 6. Click the “Help Center” link at the top bar panel to test the new theme with your real content in a preview mode.

Your Help Center visitors see the previous theme since the new one is not published yet.

• You can preview what different pages look like if you choose the corresponding page at the top right drop-down “Templates” menu.

• You can also test the theme as an end-user, anonymous or an agent by clicking the “Preview role” menu at the top bar panel and selecting the corresponding role.

Step 6. Publish the theme

• When you're ready to implement the changes, close preview and go back to Guide admin.

• Click the "Customize design" icon in the sidebar.

• Click the "Settings" icon on the theme image and select the “Set as live theme” option. Confirm this action.
